Feto-maternal outcomes in patients with jaundice in pregnancy-Experience of a tertiary care center
Pregnancy-a physiological state is often complicated by various pathologies and jaundice is one those, which carries a grave prognosis for both mother and fetus. Course of the disease is rapid and in a short period can affect the mother and the fetus (in utero) . So early diagnosis and prompt and active multidisciplinary management is required in these cases. This was a retrospective observational study carried out at a tertiary care hospital of north India during a period of 1 year in which all pregnant females presenting with jaundice in the 3rd trimester of the age group of 18-35 years were included. A predesigned Performa was made in which data was entered retrospectively. Maternal outcomes and complications were recorded which included hepatic encephalopathy, DIC, APH, PPH and death whereas fetal outcomes in the form of prematurity, LBW, IUGR, APGAR scores, need for NICU admission were considered.Out of the total 22,500 deliveries, 150 (0.66%) were admitted with jaundice. Viral hepatitis remained the most common cause of jaundice followed by ecclapsia/ pre-ecclapsia. IHCP was the third most common cause of jaundice.Early diagnosis and prompt treatment of jaundice in pregnancy is the key to improvement of both maternal and fetal outcomes.

Correlation of amniotic fluid index and color of liquor with perinatal outcome
To prove the efficiency of Amniotic fluid index(AFI) with color of liquor in predicting foetal jeopardy during labour and to select the patient who require continuous monitoring. This is an prospective observational study done during Oct 10 to Sep 12. 200 pregnant women who were booked in this hospital. Out of 200 patients, the incidence of meconium stained liquor with oligohydramnios 61% and Perinatal mortality was 2.5%. We conclude that, in term pregnancies it is a reliable method to assess the perinatal outcome.

Many of them may be ill for short time and may not need hospitalization and some of them may need hospitalization and prolong treatment. Problem statement “A study to evaluate the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on knowledge regarding developmental delay among mothers of preschool children admitted at selected hospital Belgaum, Karnataka” The objectives of the study were 1. Assess the knowledge regarding developmental delay among the mothers of preschool children.. 2. Assess the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on knowledge regarding developmental delay among mothers of preschool children. 3. To find out the association between the knowledge of mothers of preschool children with their socio demographic variables Hypothesis H1: There will be post test knowledge scores of preschool mothers are higher than the pre test knowledge scores H2: There will be significant association between pre test knowledge scores regarding developmental delay among mothers of preschool children with their selected demographic variables. At 0.05 level of significance Research Design A Pre-experimental research design Demographic variables Age of the mother, educational status of the mother, occupation of mother Research Setting The investigators selected 40 mothers of selected Hospital, Belgaum. Findings related to association between pre test knowledge scores regarding developmental delay among mothers of preschool children with their demographic variables. Study findings reveals that there is significant association between pre test knowledge score of the mothers and demographic variable like age of mother, educational status of mother, occupation of mother, (P<0.05). Hence H1 was accepted. Interpretation and conclusion The present study was consistent with the study conducted by rearing practices among migrate mothers, to assess the knowledge status of mother on upper respiratory tract infection. In this finding there was no significant association between knowledge and demographic variables like educational status of the mothers and number of children.45 Keywords Knowledge, developmental delay, Mothers of preschool children, Infant and Young Child Feeding(IYCF)

Teratological Effects of High Dose Progesterone on Neural Tube Development in Chick Embryos
Background: During the embryonic development, a complex program defines the normal neural tube development, alteration in this process, results in Neural Tube Defects (NTD). Aim: The present study found the effects of progesterone, more than the physiological value in neural tube development of chick embryos. Materials and methods: 240 fertile, pathogen-free eggs, incubated at 37.50C and 75% relative humidity until the embryos reached stage ten of development. The eggs were divided into five equal groups. Statistical Analysis Used: None. Conclusions: Our study showed that progesterone at the ten and twenty times more than its physiological values caused NTDs.

Assessment of maternal and fetal outcome in pre labour rupture of membranes
To assess fetal and maternal outcome in PROM, and also to know the risk factors behind these cases. Methods: It is a prospective study done in our hospital from January 2014 to June 2014 in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Result: Out of 100 cases, the incidence of LSCS is 12.33% in the study group and birth asphyxia about 6.6% and Respiratory distress in fetus around 14.66%. Conclusion: PROM must be managed by inducing labour either by PGE2 or Misoprostol to reduce the rate of infection and by decreases the chances of baby stay in NICU( neonatal intensive care unit).

Placental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT) complicated by Uterine arteriovenous malformation
Uterine AVMs are rare complication of gestational trophoblastic disease, with a life-threatening potential as a result of unexplained and torrential bleeding.Placental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT) is a rare form of gestational trophoblastic disease. PSTT has a wide range of clinical presentations and behaviors. However, few case reports are available about PSTT cases complicated by uterine AVMs.In this report, a PSTT case with evidences of uterine AVM on imaging studies is reported. A 33-year-old patient, gravida 2, para 2 was referred to emergency service, with sever vaginal bleeding and ?-hCG level of 1063 IU/l. Trans-abdominal and trans-vaginal ultrasonography images indicated hypoechoic mass in endometrium with echo-free center with size of 46*33mm that extended to anterior myometrium of uterus. Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a 38*49mm mass with heterogeneous signal in T1 and T2 in right lateral side of uterus with enhancement after contrast agent injection. In angiography the right uterine artery had serpentine vessels and AVM view. Dilation and curettage was not possible due to risk of sever hemorrhage following damage to the hypervascular lesion. So suction biopsy was performed under hysteroscopic guide, after embolization of uterine artery for stabilization of the patient. The patient underwent laparotomy, total abdominal hysterectomy because of pathological report of PSTT. The patient is in good health with no evidence of disease at follow-up of 18 months after operation.
