Existentialism School of Philosophy: the Baseline Causality of Lifelong Teaching and Learning
The philosophy of existentialism is a philosophy which draws attention to how human beings can insulate their distinct being in the world through the reality of individual being and the freedom of choice under the stance that existence precedes essence. The idea ‘existence precedes essence’ means that human nature is determined by the course of life rather than life by nature. However, pragmatic, progressive and reconstructive societal tides negate the individual being and freedom of choice. An attempt to recover individual being and freedom necessitates the need for education and lifelong learning. This study focused on existentialism as the cause of lifelong learning. The theory of determinism which holds that all events are instigated by other prevalent causes was therefore used to explain that lifelong learning is the outcome arising from the fact that human beings are susceptible to alienation and estrangement, and they use education to situate themselves. In this treatise, coherent abstractions revealed that the distinctiveness of human beings is contracted by existentialism, while teaching and learning is used to assist human beings to come to terms with issues of existence over essence, being and nothingness, anxiety and authenticity, absurdity and irrationality, freedom and independence, situatedness, alienation and estrangement. The implication is that these existential negations substantiate why human beings strive as individuals to transmute their essence or nature through lifelong learning.

Perception of IB Primary Years Programme teachers on Professional Development
As the present world challenges schools and the entire school community with many changes in the hope of improving the learning outcomes of students, schools and teachers, they are tasked with constantly upgrading the standards of education. Professional development has always been the focus of most of these improvements. In most schools and in the International Baccalaureate, teachers recognise that professional development does not end after the 1-hour or 3-days or 4-weeks sessions, it is continuous in nature and extends towards their everyday dealings. This study is a qualitative research that involves primary school teachers of an IB World School. The outcome of this research seems to capture the teachers’ perspective on professional development and how it has influenced their teaching practice. A review of relevant literature on the topic of professional development will give an idea on what professional development is, its purpose, how it has met the needs of teachers and how it has caused significant changes in teaching techniques. Mixed research methods were adopted in this study, the perspectives of a small group of primary teachers were recorded and analysed; allowing for comparisons with the results of the previous researches conducted in the field.

An investigation of counsellor burnout levels and intervention strategies in public and private universities in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya
Institutional counsellors, like all mental health professionals are at a high risk of suffering burnout. High caseloads and job role ambiguity increase their propensity for burnout. The purpose of this study was to establish counsellor burnout levels in public and in private universities in Uasin Gishu County. The target population comprised of counsellors from all public and private universities in Uasin Gishu County. The Maslach Burnout Inventory Questionnaire (MBIQ) was used to collect data. The study established that burnout levels among counsellors in the public universities were found to be higher than in the private universities. The caseloads handled by counsellors in public universities were generally higher than those of their counterparts in private universities due to the student-counsellor ratio in public universities which was higher than the recommended ratio. Counsellor Training Institutions (CTI) should incorporate burnout theoretical knowledge in the counsellor training curriculum. The findings are significant to the management of universities and other learning institutions in formulating policies on student-counsellor ratio. Intelligence: Heredity and Environment
Each of us is a unique person, a combination of inherited genetic material and environmental influences. A basic theme and controversial issue throughout the history of psychology has been the debate and investigation of the relative roles of heredity and environment in the formation of individual differences. Despite beliefs that men are born equal, they are not. Every person possesses a unique set of genetic material bestowing them with variations in aptitude, physical development, and capacities, which in turn are acted on by the occurrence of unique environmental experiences some of which even influence the creature prenatally There are many claims, opinions, and arguments about where intelligence comes from - is it from our genetic heritage, or is it a result of the environment and our experiences? A substantial body of research tells us that both heredity and environment affect intelligence.
